Curriculum for the 20 month full time course

 

 

Month 1 - 4

Learn about and execute various traditional "cold" metal shaping and connecting techniques which will culminate in the design and fabrication of the various elements of a major completed piece of jewellery.

 

Month 5 - 6

Learn about and execute various traditional "hot" metal shaping and connection techniques. The student will be encouraged to develop a personal design style and will be required to document the objects development and fabrication through notes and sketches.

 

Month 7 - 10

Employ and combine all the techniques previously learned and continue to develop more complex concepts and metal shaping skills. Students will be encouraged to further develop personal styles and undertake more complex fabrication approaches.

 


 

First Year Completion

 

An evaluation of all work completed will take place after 10 months of study. At the end of this study period the student will have explored and mastered all fundamental metal working techniques and design styles. An evaluation of the mastery of 

these fundamentals will take place. The student will also have developed a fundamental ability to express and execute their own concepts in both a two and three dimensional formats and will be required to document and present these ideas and skills in major completed works.

 

 


 

To enter into the second year of the 20 months course students need to have completely finished the first 10 months. The grade points average has to be 85 % in the subjects Design, Depth of Design and Technical Skills, based on the results of the last two months of the first 10 months.

 


 

 

Month 11 - 13 ( Gem Design with a different Curriculum )

Introduced flow of series and multi production techniques. The student will learn to evaluate production technicalities, cost factors and appropriateness of design to multi production. The student will also explore the execution of major "one of a kind " objects while continuing to develop their own design style. The student will be encouraged to explore the usability of exceptional and non traditional materials in their works.

 

Month 14 - 17 (Gem Design with a different curriculum)

During this study period the student will be assigned a number of design and technical problems

and well be required to resolve the issues. The completion of these tasks, in addition to discussions with the instructor, will form the basis for a pre-diploma critique.

Final Diploma tasks and presentations will be selected in consultation with the instructor.

 

Month 18 - 20 ( Gem Design with a different curriculum )

Diploma work and exam.

The evaluation of the exam project will include originality of concept, cost and production factors, personal design development, skills in fabrication and execution, marketing concepts and style of project presentation.

 

 

 

You graduate with a Diploma as a Jewellery Designer
